Random thoughts while training…

I’ve written before about getting “zen” while training; there’s nothing quite like zoning out and letting your mind just wander (hopefully it comes back…). I’ve discovered that this is one of my favorite things to do while training, even while swimming (though I do spend a lot of time trying to remember to breathe…). If you’re reading this, I’m sure you do the same thing. But what sort of inane stuff passes through our minds while we’re torturing ourselves from the neck down?

Dry heavesHere are a few (in no particular order)…remember, this is what happens when you’re in the midst of torturing your body, so anything goes…

I should have worn another layer…
I’m glad I didn’t wear another layer…

This feels a lot harder than last time…

That’s going to hurt… (looking up at a upcoming hill)
Stupid birds!! (as they bob and weave in front of my bike)

I wonder if he’s going to come into my lane…yup, he did…

Applies to: realizing I’ve done an entire offroad ride with my suspension locked out, traffic, not realizing I forgot my Garmin until I get to the pool, etc…
There is no way I’m going to be ready for an Ironman in 2015…
I’m going to crush my next race…
How fast do I have to do this on race day?
I hate it when I have to share a swim lane…
Hmmm…this is like an open water swim (the guy in the lane next to me was swimming butterfly)
She’s doing laps and flip turns in that? Okay…
What am I going to eat when I get home?
What am I going to eat after that?
This really is the best thing in the whole world…

That’s just a sampling of the completely random stuff that runs through my head while training. Is it any wonder people think triathletes are nuts? :)
